New Steph Curry Rumors Update Warriors Contract Extension Talks Ahead of Eligibility Date

Golden State Warriors star point guard Stephen Curry is reportedly expected to receive a new payday soon.

Curry becomes eligible for a contract extension on Saturday, and ESPN's Anthony Slater reported that team sources confirmed that he and the Warriors "are expected to engage with a mutual desire to keep Curry with the Warriors for the entirety of his career."

Curry is set to make $62.6 million this season in the final year of his previous deal, and he's eligible for an extension of up to two years and $136.7 million. Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy expressed confidence earlier this month that the two-time NBA MVP won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

"Ultimately it's his call, his decision, whether that's allowing his contract to run out and move on," Dunleavy said. "Look, if he comes to me and wants to be moved, [controlling owner] Joe [Lacob] and I will talk it through. We wouldn't love it. But he's earned the right to do what he wants. But as far as the messaging or any idea that he'd be anywhere else, that's not a thing we're looking at or he's looking at."

The Warriors have had a relatively quiet offseason after failing to land any of the big-name players they pursued. Golden State focused on bolstering its depth over the last few weeks, and the team signed veteran power forward Georges Niang and reserve guard Brandon Williams to one-year deals on Wednesday.

While the Warriors aren't expected to contend for a championship this year, Curry's loyalty to the team likely will ensure that he will remain the face of the franchise for the foreseeable future.
