Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr wants to see the NBA crack down harder on players flopping.
Speaking to reporters prior to Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Kerr said "we should be the No Bulls--t Association" in speaking about flopping and how it gets called by the officials.
"Like, every bit of bulls--t that the players try to pull, we should just say, 'No, no. We're not doing that.' And it's a better game when guys aren't flopping, guys aren't grabbing each other, hooking each other, running into screens and looking like they got hit by a car," Kerr added. "It's just a better game when the officials have the ability to just say, 'No. We're not buying into that.' And I feel like we are constantly, as a league, sort of behind the players. The players are grifting and we're chasing them and we're never getting ahead of it. And that's my biggest issue."
The flopping question came up after Tuesday's game between the Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers. There was a two-minute sequence in the fourth quarter when officials called technical fouls on Ja Morant, Toumani Camara and Ziaire Williams for flopping on defense.
Prior to the start of the regular season, the NBA unveiled the main points of emphasis it was focusing on for players, coaches and referees. One of the points on the list was on "exaggerated and theatrical" movements aimed at getting a favorable call.
Kerr also revealed he sent clips to the NBA office early in the season about various calls, but he declined to publicly comment on what his conversations with league officials entailed.
One thing Kerr made sure to emphasize was he thinks "our officials do a great job" overall and everyone needs "to stay ahead of all the player grifting."
There were no such technical-foul issues between the Warriors and Timberwolves on Wednesday night. Golden State left the Target Center with a 119-114 victory thanks to 44 points from Stephen Curry and a near-double-double from Yaxel Lendeborg with 26 points and nine rebounds.
The Warriors have won back-to-back games after their 0-3 start. They will look to get back to the .500 mark on Friday when they host the Los Angeles Lakers.
