Angel Reese Reacts to Historic Performance in Dream's WNBA Finals Game 6 Win over Valkyries
Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese commented following her team's series-extending, 80-69 win over the Golden State Valkyries in Game 6 of the WNBA Finals on Thursday.
Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese commented following her team's series-extending, 80-69 win over the Golden State Valkyries in Game 6 of the WNBA Finals on Thursday.
Reese addressed the victory in a post on X after dropping 15 points, 14 rebounds and six assists in 35 minutes of action:
The third-year forward made history during Game 6, as she broke Sylvia Fowles' record for the most total rebounds ever accrued during a WNBA Finals series:
Speaking during an on-court interview after Thursday's win, Reese discussed the upcoming Game 7 on Saturday, saying, "Championship mentality. We just wanted to get this one, one at a time, and being able to go out and take our chances on going on the road and win one. We needed the opportunity, that's all we needed, and we maximized it today. I'm just really proud of this group, the job is not done, and I'm looking forward to it. One more."
The Dream's backs were against the wall entering Thursday's home game, as the Valkyries were one win away from winning their first WNBA championship in only their second year of existence.
Atlanta dominated from start to finish in Game 6, though, racing out to a 32-15 lead in the first quarter that was never relinquished.
Reese felt the fast start was the key to Thursday's win, telling reporters , "I'm proud of this group for the punch first that we emphasized. When we punch first, we have won every single game. ... We have to make sure we continue that going forward."
Fittingly, the highly competitive series is shifting back to San Francisco for Game 7, which will be played at the Chase Center on Halloween night.
The Dream won Game 2 in San Francisco, so they know what it takes to beat a tough Valkyries team on the road.
Atlanta used a balanced attack to beat Golden State in Game 6 with four players scoring in double figures, and should that happen again in Game 7, the Dream stand a great chance of winning their first-ever WNBA title.
