Kevin Durant Teases NBA Retirement Timeline in New Video After Russell Westbrook's Announcement

Kevin Durant watched former teammate Russell Westbrook retire this offseason and admitted the end of his own career might not be that far away.

"I'm on deck," the future Hall of Famer said during an episode of Boardroom Talks (11:40 mark). "… It's a young man's game. Even though I still feel like I can play, I always hear, 'you're 38, you're 39. You're getting up there.' I get that. But I put everything into the game, and I'm cool with whatever happens moving forward. I'm going to continue putting everything into the game until I can't."

Durant entered the league as the No. 2 overall pick of a 2007 draft that still has a veteran presence in the league with Mike Conley and Al Horford. And while they are also near the end of their careers as well, Durant still occupies a different role.

After all, the 37-year-old was an All-NBA Second-Team selection last season as one of the best players in the league.

While he may not be quite as dominant as he was at his peak, the Texas product can still take over games and go back-and-forth with the NBA's elite. He averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists last season for the Houston Rockets while maintaining his incredible efficiency that has defined his tenure.

Durant shot 52 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from deep.

It isn't difficult to imagine him connecting on his smooth midrange jumpers and outside looks for the next five years at least, even if he loses some of his explosiveness when attacking the basket. He also answered some durability questions by appearing in 78 games in 2025-26, although he missed the majority of Houston's first-round loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

When Durant does eventually retire, the NBA will be losing a legend.

His resume includes two championships, two NBA Finals MVPs, a league MVP, a Rookie of the Year, four scoring titles, 12 All-NBA selections, 16 All-Star nods and a spot on the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team.

Durant has helped define a generation in the league's history alongside players such as LeBron James and Stephen Curry, and is continuing to do so even if he is thinking about eventual retirement.
