Three days away from Connecticut's first game of the 2026-27 college basketball season, head coach Dan Hurley has agreed to a contract extension.
Per Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports and 247Sports, Hurley will sign a new deal that keeps him under contract with the Huskies through the 2031-32 season.
Financial details of the agreement are unknown, but Rothstein noted it will keep Hurley among the highest-paid coaches in college basketball.
Hurley was under contract through the 2029-30 season after signing a six-year, $50 million deal in July 2024. That agreement came about following his talks with the Los Angeles Lakers about their head-coaching position.
Kansas' Bill Self was the only men's college basketball head coach who made more than Hurley's $8.025 million base salary during the 2025-26 season. His deal also had the highest buyout at $34.8 million as of April 1.
If Hurley coaches for the entirety of his new deal, he will have spent 14 consecutive seasons at UConn. Jim Calhoun (27 seasons) and Hugh Greer (17 seasons) would be the only head coaches with a longer tenure at the university.
Hurley already ranks third in Huskies history with 199 victories through his first eight seasons. He has won at least 31 games three times in the last four seasons with three Final Four appearances and two national titles during that span.
Connecticut is entering the 2026-27 season ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press Top 25 preseason poll. It's the fourth consecutive year the Huskies have started a season ranked sixth or better.
Hurley and the Huskies will tipoff the regular season on Monday when they take on Gardner-Webb at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford.
