Phoenix Suns wing Dillon Brooks seemingly took a subtle shot at Kevin Durant following his team's 102-99 win over the Houston Rockets.
Brooks cited the Suns' "culture" when asked about their defensive performance. They held Durant to 5-of-14 shooting.
"We play hard, we play together and we try to challenge ourselves to do great," Brooks said . "So shout out to Mat."
One could read his remark as a reference to the back-and-forth Durant had with Suns team governor Mat Ishbia on social media last month:
Brooks has built his reputation on being an irritant on and off the floor, and he doesn't think twice about challenging notable stars. Following Saturday's game, he said in the locker room he was "s--t-talking to other guys" on Houston and will "just say what I need to say."
Brooks' approach has been successful for him individually, and his teams have occasionally fed off his intensity on the floor. He has carved out a long career and signed a $73 million extension with Phoenix.
It's safe to assume the 30-year-old doesn't have a ton of friends around the league, though. Earlier this week, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green sounded off on the veteran forward after they had a tense moment in a game.
Brooks probably sees that as evidence that his strategy is still working.
