“It Gives Me Chills”: Klay Thompson Makes Feelings Clear on Ray Allen Comparison After Joining Miami

With Klay Thompson joining the Miami Heat , fans couldn't help but draw a comparison to Ray Allen , the sharpshooter who won his second NBA title after moving to South Beach ahead of the 2012-13 season.

On Tuesday, Thompson was asked to comment on this comparison when he appeared on ESPN West Palm. In the radio interview, the four-time NBA champion said he was flattered by all the Allen chatter.

"Of course I like those comparisons. I love Ray Allen. Are you kidding me? Him and Reggie were the blueprint for my whole off ball formula. It gives me chills I'm even in the same sentence as Ray, because if you told me this my rookie season, I would've never believed you."

Expressing his astonishment at being likened to Allen, Thompson invoked the memory of the Hall of Famer's greatest moment in a Heat uniform.

"Ray has one of the greatest shots, obviously, in NBA history. I still practice that drill, that back pedal drill to the corner, like he did in Game 6 in 2013."

Thompson was referring to the moment when Allen caught a pass off a Chris Bosh offensive board and hit a corner three to send Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals into overtime. The Heat went on to win that night to force Game 7, eventually claiming the NBA championship at the expense of the San Antonio Spurs .

Thompson, who is chasing his fifth title, will be a designated shooter to space the floor for his All-Star teammates Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

Klay Thompson may take some time to get used to calling Miami his NBA home, but there is a familiar face who can help him get settled in the locker room.

In his introductory press conference on Tuesday, Thompson talked about reconnecting with Andrew Wiggins, a teammate of his on the 2022 Golden State Warriors championship squad.

"Andrew was the first one to talk to me, cause I think he's the only one who had my cell phone number. It was good to talk to Wigs. We got a great history together. Winning a championship together was really awesome."

Thompson added that Wiggins, who was dealt to the Heat in last year's Jimmy Butler trade, made his job in Golden State easier because he was "such a great defender."
