UP head cop held for bludgeoning wife to death with iron rod, motive unclear

LUCKNOW: A 40-year-old police head constable was arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing his wife by repeatedly striking her on the head with an iron rod at their rented accommodation in the Paper Mill area of Mahanagar.The victim, identified as Rashmi Srivastava (38), died on the spot after sustaining grievous head injuries. The accused, Himanshu Srivastava (40), a 2011-batch head constable posted in the office of the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Lucknow, has been taken into custody and is being questioned. He worked in the Right to Information cell.According to police, the incident came to light around 2.30 pm when the landlord alerted the police control room. A police team rushed to the spot and found Rashmi lying in a pool of blood inside the house. Preliminary investigation suggests that Himanshu allegedly attacked his wife multiple times with an iron rod, inflicting fatal injuries. However, the motive behind the killing remains unclear. “It is not clear why he attacked his wife. The matter is being investigated,” said Akhilesh Mishra, SHO, Mahanagar. Police said Himanshu is a native of Ayodhya, while Rashmi hailed from Ambedkar Nagar district.DCP (Central) Vikrant Vir said an FIR has been registered against the accused on a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother Saurabh Srivastava. “The accused constable is in custody and is being questioned.
