A Spanish high-speed train has collided with another, south of the country's capital Madrid, killing dozens of people and injuring more.

More than 500 passengers were travelling on the trains involved, and the death toll makes the rail disaster the worst in the country since 2013.

"The whole country is grieving", said Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who visited the site. He also announced three days of mourning starting on 29 October.

Rail operator Adif said the incident occurred between a Renfe train and another of the Iryo company, which covers the Madrid to Seville route.
