'Too difficult to care for them': Florida mom tries to kill 2 autistic sons after husband’s death

A 68-year-old Florida woman has been arrested after authorities said she admitted deliberately giving medication to her two adult sons in an attempt to kill them, Florida Today reported.Marilyn Elise Therrell was taken into custody after deputies responded to her home in Kissimmee on September 8 following a report of an overdose. Therrell and her sons, aged 32 and 30, were taken to a local hospital.The two men, who have severe autism, remained hospitalised as of September 18. Sheriff’s officials said they were expected to recover.After being discharged from hospital, Therrell spoke to detectives on September 17. According to a statement from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department provided to the outlet, she said caring for her sons had become increasingly difficult after her husband died last year.Investigators said Therrell admitted that she had intentionally given both men an overdose of medication, intending to kill them.The sons are expected to be placed in state care after they leave the hospital, sheriff’s officials said.Therrell was booked into the Osceola County Jail and faces two counts each of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated abuse of a disabled adult.Catch the latest World News and Live updates.
