Four arrested for attacking devotees during Ganesh idol immersion procession

Times News NetworkKanpur: Police on Friday arrested four people for allegedly attacking devotees during a Ganesh idol immersion procession near Fattepur village in Gujaini police station area of the city on Thursday. The accused were later paraded in the area to create fear of the law among criminals.Those arrested were Shobhit Singh of Galla Mandi in Hanumant Vihar, Rahul Bhadauria of Arra village, and Dhanraj Singh Bhadauria and Jugraj Singh Bhadauria of Fattepur Dakshin.DCP (South) Deependra Nath Chaudhary said Arpit Shukla, a Galla Mandi resident, and his associates were taking a Ganesh idol for immersion in Bidhnu canal. After the procession crossed Pandu river bridge and reached Fattepur village, the accused and several associates allegedly stopped and attacked it.Ansh Sharma alias Sudama, a KDA Colony resident, was seriously injured after being struck with an axe. Aviral Dubey, Mayank and a woman were also injured and admitted to a Hospital.Police said an earlier dispute between Arpit and Shobhit Singh Rana alias Shobhit Thakur had led to the attack. An FIR over an alleged assault on Arpit had been registered at Hanumant Vihar police station. The accused allegedly pressured Arpit to withdraw the case and attacked him after he refused.Police registered a case, including charges of attempted murder and rioting, following a complaint by Ansh’s sister, Akanksha Sharma.Chaudhary denied reports of bombing or aerial firing, saying only firecrackers were burst. He said the arrested accused have three criminal cases each against them.
