No selfish motive behind wearing RSS uniform: Rajendran
Former CPM MLA S Rajendran defends wearing RSS uniform at Munnar Vijayadashami, says BJP move wasn’t selfish and seeks solutions for Idukki land issues.
Idukki: Former CPM MLA S Rajendran has hit back at criticism over his appearance in the RSS uniform at a Vijayadashami celebration in Munnar, saying that neither his decision to wear the uniform nor his move to BJP was motivated by personal interests. He said his objective was to stand with the people and work towards resolving long-standing problems facing Idukki.Rajendran’s appearance in full RSS uniform at the organisation’s Vijayadashami celebrations has triggered a political debate, particularly in view of his past association with CPM and his subsequent entry into BJP. He also inaugurated a publicity campaign for Kesari, the RSS-affiliated weekly, at the event.Responding to the criticism, Rajendran said he had never pursued politics for positions or financial benefits. He maintained that his decisions should be viewed in the context of his political journey and the issues affecting the people he had represented.“I did not wear the uniform out of selfishness. I joined BJP to stand with the people and work to resolve the problems of the region,” he said. The former MLA said critics should examine the circumstances that led to his political transition instead of judging his actions in isolation. He also pointed out that he had entered another political party after a gap of five years, urging those questioning his decision to take his public life and personal circumstances into account.‘Central intervention necessary to resolve land issues’Highlighting the challenges facing Idukki, Rajendran said intervention by the Central govt was essential to address issues concerning forest land and plantation areas. The region has been grappling with complex land-related issues that have affected residents and plantation communities. He acknowledged that his entry into BJP would not, by itself, guarantee solutions to these problems. However, he argued that efforts should be made to use the available political avenues to address the concerns of the people.Rajendran also rejected the suggestion that his decision to wear RSS uniform was intended to hurt anyone. He called for his actions to be assessed in the light of his political experience and the circumstances surrounding his career. From three-time CPM MLA to NDA candidateRajendran represented the Devikulam assembly constituency as a CPM candidate in 2006, 2011 and 2016, serving as MLA for 15 years. He also served as president of the Idukki district panchayat. His relationship with CPM subsequently deteriorated, eventually leading to his departure from the party. He joined BJP in Jan 2026 and later contested the Devikulam assembly constituency as NDA candidate in the 2026 election. His appearance in the RSS uniform marks another politically significant development in his transition from a long-time CPM legislator to a BJP member, bringing his political choices and stated commitment to resolving Idukki’s regional issues back into public discussion. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Kochi | Silver Rate in Kochi | Bank Holidays in Kochi | Public Holidays in KochiStay updated with the latest Kochi news.
