Dist collectors told to inspect mid-day meals in schools across Raj

Jaipur: The state govt has instructed all district collectors to conduct intensive inspections of mid-day meals being served in govt schools across the state Tuesday and Wednesday.As part of the exercise, each district will cover 20% of schools, including those that have not been inspected in the last two years. The inspection reports have to be submitted by Wednesday evening.The exercise is being conducted following reports of milk not being supplied properly in schools and children falling ill after consuming mid-day meals.“District collectors have been asked to inspect mid-day meals at a minimum of 20 schools selected randomly from district and block headquarters. Collectors may deploy officials from departments other than education to ensure impartial inspections,” an official from the midday meal department said.The inspection will cover all categories of schools, including govt schools, Sanskrit schools and madrassas.Officials said the inspection is conducted bi-annually, in Feb and Sept, to check the quality of food being served, storage of grains and raw material in schools and cleanliness of areas where food is prepared, among other factors.“Based on the inspection, action will be taken if quality is found not up to the mark in any particular district. Schools have been instructed to ensure that midday meal service does not stop, despite lack of funds or delayed release of funds to cook cum helper.
