Exhibition celebrates legacy of arts educator Sir Roy Shaw
Sir Roy Shaw served as the Secretary-General of the Arts Council and was knighted in 1979.
The life of a professor and former Arts Council Secretary-General for England is being honoured in an exhibition, 14 years after his death.
Sir Roy Shaw, who served as Keele University's Director of Adult Education from 1962 to 1975, will be celebrated for his lifelong commitment to arts.
He was knighted in 1979 in recognition of his major contributions to adult education and helping shape national policies.
The exhibition, which opened on Saturday, will run at the Staffordshire university's Chancellor's building until 28 October.
The exhibition will bring together material from Sheffield-born Sir Roy's personal academic archive, alongside family photographs and artefacts.
Despite an impoverished upbringing he went on to play an important role in national arts and education policy and supported regional theatre through his work with Peter Cheeseman and the Victoria Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent.
Alongside the exhibition, visitors can discover the stories of other influential changemakers whose achievements have been recognised by Keele through the award of honorary degrees.
A public lecture will also taking place in Chancellor's Building on 5 October between 18:00 and 20:00 BST
