Jailed former Pak PM Imran Khan undergoes medical check-up amid concerns over health

Jailed former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan underwent a medical check-up at Adiala Jail amid concerns over his health, according to a media report on Sunday.Khan, 73, has been in jail since 2023 following his conviction in a corruption case and is currently lodged at the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.According to Geo News, a specialist team from the state-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) examined Khan at the jail. The check-up included assessments of his blood pressure, cholesterol levels and eyesight.The medical team was led by a PIMS doctor, with medical staff from the Adiala Jail hospital assisting during the examination, the report said.Khan has previously complained of an eye condition and has been taken to PIMS several times for treatment. His supporters have alleged that his health has deteriorated due to inadequate medical care, a claim that prison authorities have repeatedly rejected.The Supreme Court had ordered on August 18 that Khan be shifted to a private medical facility for treatment. However, he was taken to PIMS, where he underwent medical tests before being returned to jail, news agency ANI cited.His Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has sought his transfer to Islamabad's Shifa International Hospital for a detailed medical examination and treatment, while raising concerns over his health.The party has also announced a September 27 demonstration seeking Khan's release.Khan has faced multiple legal cases since his removal as prime minister through a no-confidence vote in April 2022, with his health and conditions of detention remaining a recurring issue in Pakistan's political discourse.Catch the latest World News and Live updates.
