Bay of Bengal low-pressure area likely to intensify into depression by Oct 25

Visakhapatnam: A developing low-pressure area over southeast and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify further into a depression around Oct 25 with high probability. Then, the system is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify further during the subsequent three days and could mark the beginning of a fresh cyclonic threat over the Bay of Bengal. Usually, October is a highly favourable month for cyclones in the Bay of Bengal because of warm sea surface temperatures and low vertical wind shear.As per the IMD, an upper air cyclonic circulation lay over southeast and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal and Andaman Islands on Thursday. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over southeast and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal on Friday. Though the IMD mentioned that the low-pressure area may intensify into a depression and further intensify, cyclone formation and its potential landfall location have not yet been confirmed. The weather system may trigger heavy rainfall in parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.Squally weather with wind speed reaching 35-45, gusting to 55 kmph, is very likely to prevail over eastcentral and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal from Oct 23 evening. It is likely to increase further, becoming 45-55, gusting to 65 kmph, by Saturday evening, becoming 50-60, gusting to 70 kmph, over eastcentral and adjoining westcentral and southeast Bay of Bengal by Sunday evening.It is likely to increase further, becoming a gale wind exceeding 70-80 kmph, gusting to 90 kmph, over westcentral and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal from Monday.
