Trichy man loses Rs 1.1 lakh in customer care fraud

Trichy: A 64-year-old man from Trichy has lost Rs 1.1 lakh to a fraudster pretending to be a customer service centre executive.Police said P Manickam from Ponnagar searched online for a customer care number of a home appliance store and contacted one of the numbers displayed in the search result. Hours later, he was contacted by an unidentified person claiming to resolve his grievance.Subsequently, Manickam was sent a link by the caller. Manickam furnished his personal details online on Oct 15. Shortly after, Rs 1.1 lakh was withdrawn using details of his credit cards and bank accounts.Manickam lodged a complaint via the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) on Saturday.
