6 dead as tractor-trolley carrying devotees overturns in Haryana's Kurukshetra

KURUKSHETRA: Six persons, including two children and four women, were killed and about 10 others injured after a tractor-trolley carrying devotees to Bagar Dham in Rajasthan overturned near Pindarsi village in Kurukshetra district on Thursday.The deceased have been identified so far as Leela Devi (58), Bala Devi (50), Bahoti Devi (60), Anjali (27), wife of Rahul Saini, Harsh (6) and one-and-a-half-year-old Seerat.The identity of the sixth victim was yet to be confirmed. The bodies of some victims were kept at Barna Community Health Centre, while others were taken to LNJP Hospital, Kurukshetra, for further proceedings.Leela was a resident of Kalal Majra, while Bala Devi, a resident of Jundla village in Karnal, had reportedly come to stay with her relative Leela.According to information, around 20 devotees from Kalal Majra village were travelling in the tractor-trolley to pay obeisance at Bagar Dham. The accident occurred on the Kurukshetra-Kaithal road.According to police and local accounts, the tractor-trolley was attempting to overtake another trolley loaded with wood when the two vehicles came into contact.The impact allegedly caused the passenger-laden trolley to lose balance and overturn on the road. Several passengers were trapped under or thrown from the trolley.Local residents and police rushed to the spot and helped rescue the injured. They were shifted to nearby health facilities and Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Civil Hospital, Kurukshetra, for treatment.The incident triggered panic among the passengers and residents in the area. Police reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident.Kurukshetra DSP Gurwinder Singh and doctors at LNJP Civil Hospital briefed the authorities about the rescue and treatment of the injured. Statements from the victims' relatives were also being recorded.DSP Gurwinder Singh said, “A very unfortunate accident has taken place near Pindarsi village, as some people were going to Bagar, Rajasthan, to pay obeisance there. All occupants of the trolley were devotees of Bagar and the vehicle overturned during an overtake attempt. Six have died and some others are injured.”On-duty medical officer Dr Opender at LNJP Civil Hospital said, “Four people were brought dead while others were injured in an accident near Pindarsi village.
