'No anti-incumbency for BJP': Rahul Gandhi namedrops Saddam, Kim Jong Un to attack Modi govt, EC

NEW DELHI: In a strong charge amid the Election Commission row over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday held a fiery press conference, stepping up his attack on the Centre and the conduct of elections in the country.In a sharp criticism, Rahul played an old video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi sloganeering “abki baar, 400 paar” during the campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.Rahul said that even amid anti-incumbency, PM Modi's confidence showed that “anti-incumbency does not happen to PM Modi.”Drawing a parallel, he said, “anti-incumbency does not happen in Saddam Hussein's Iraq and Kim Jong Un's North Korea.”The former Congress president also made a sweeping claim, saying “all elections are being rigged.”"Gyanesh Kumar was chosen by PM, Amit Shah and now two ECs are saying he's responsible for chaos, damage to our voting system," Rahul said.He further attacked PM Modi-led Centre, saying, "fact is PM, home minister have attacked and destroyed democratic architecture of this country."The latest attack comes amid the row over SIR after an Indian Express report claimed there were differences between the chief election commissioner and the other two election commissioners over the exercise.The Election Commission has rejected the allegations, saying its decisions on SIR were unanimous and that written notes, observations and differing views were part of its internal deliberations.Get the latest India News and Live updates.
