Nashik: Hours before President Droupadi Murmu hoisted the Dharma Dhwaja at Ramkund on Saturday, the Simhastha Kumbh Mela had already arrived in spirit. From early morning, devotees streamed towards Godavari ghats. By the time President reached Ramkund shortly after 11 am, the riverfront had turned into a sea of devotees, flowers and anticipation. Conch shells echoed across the ghats. Vedic chants mingled with cries of “Jai Shri Ram” and “Shivaji Maharaj Ki Jai”. Every available vantage point was occupied. The transformation was striking. For nearly three months, Ramkund, Laxman Kund and Sita Kund had remained largely dry as infrastructure works progressed along the riverfront. On Saturday, however, water once again flowed through the historic stretch after a release from Gangapur dam, restoring the familiar sight of Godavari winding past flower-decked ghats and ancient temples. The preparations had begun the previous night. Temples and ghats glowed under decorative lighting. Floral arrangements adorned the ceremonial area, while tableaux depicting Samudra Manthan drew visitors. Security barricades and checkpoints lined approach roads, but beyond them, the atmosphere was that of a festival long awaited.Among those drawing attention were 24-year-olds Gaurav Pandey and Vaishnavi Atram, dressed as Lord Ram and Sita. As they moved through the crowd, devotees stopped them for photographs, touched their feet and sought blessings.“We are associated with Shri Ram Seva Samiti and dress as Lord Ram and Sita during major religious events,” Pandey said. “People’s devotion and affection make the effort worthwhile,” he added. The ceremony also attracted visitors from outside India. James Harper, a tourist from England, travelled to Nashik after learning about Dhwajarohan.“I was in Mumbai when I heard about the ceremony and decided to come here,” he said. “Everything is beautifully organised. Despite the huge crowd, movement has been remarkably smooth,” he said.As noon approached, the anticipation deepened. Eyes turned towards the 51-foot Dhwajstambh while priests conducted rituals at the yagya kund and performed worship of Godavari and the ceremonial flag. Then came the moment thousands had gathered to witness. At exactly 12.02 pm, President Murmu hoisted the Dharma Dhwaja. As the flag unfurled above Godavari, conches sounded, bells rang and chants rose from the crowd. Sadhus, mahants, devotees and dignitaries looked on as the fluttering flag formally announced the beginning of the once-in-12-years pilgrimage. For Ramkund, the day was about more than a ceremony. After months of construction, dry ghats and anticipation, the riverfront reclaimed its familiar rhythm.By the time the chants faded and the crowd began to disperse, one thing was unmistakable: Simhastha had begun, and Ramkund had fully slipped into Kumbh mode. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Nashik | Silver Rate in Nashik | Bank Holidays in Nashik | Public Holidays in Nashik | Petrol Price in Nashik | Diesel Price in Nashik | CNG Price in Nashik | LPG Price in NashikStay updated with the latest Nashik news.
