19km roads for end-point connectivity for Hinjewadi Metro

Pune: The govt is planning to develop a total of 19.2 km of roads for last-mile connectivity for commuters using the upcoming Hinjewadi metro. The roads will be initially developed at eight out of the 12 Metro stations that will be operational in the first leg.The stations include Megapolis circle, Quadron circle, Dohler station, Infosys phase 2 station, Wipro Technologies station, Pall India station, Shivaji Chowk station and Hinjewadi station.Maharashtra Industrial Development Authority (MIDC) and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will jointly develop the last-mile connectivity roads. The construction work is expected to be completed by Dec. The carriageways will be 12-30 m wide and will have lengths of 0.5-1.5 km. “We have identified residential and office clusters within 500 m of the Metro stations within which these roads will be developed along with footpaths and a bicycle track,” Abhijit Chaudhari, commissioner, PMRDA, said in a meeting held in Sept detailing various proposed works for Hinjewadi IT park.There are four roads proposed at Megapolis circle station with a length of 4.06 km. Roads proposed from this station will be developed by MIDC and gram panchayat. At Quadron circle station, three roads will be built stretching over 3.7 km and developed by MIDC. PMRDA will develop 1.5 km of road starting at Dohler circle station and another 1.1 km road from Wipro Technologies station. MIDC will construct a 500 m road at Infosys phase 2 station. The width of these carriageways will be 18 metres wide.A total of 1.6 km of road will be developed at Pall India station, of which MIDC will build two roads of 400 and 780 metres while PMRDA will develop one road of 400 metres.Shivaji Chowk station, which is expected to be one of the busiest points on the Hinjewadi line, has five last-mile connectivity roads, of which three will be developed by MIDC and two by PMRDA.
