Baxters fish soup cans recalled over fears they could 'swell and rupture'
A manufacturing fault could cause a batch of the Cullen Skink soup to spoil, and cans could swell and burst.
Customers who bought cans of a fish soup manufactured by Baxters have been urged to dispose of them in outside bins over fears the tins could burst.
The firm has recalled its Chef Selections Cullen Skink soup, a smoked haddock chowder, due to a manufacturing fault which may cause it to spoil and cans to "swell and potentially rupture", according to the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
If spoilt, the soup may have an "unpleasant odour and flavour", the FSA said.
The company, based in the north east of Scotland, said the issue may affect the 400g cans with batch code L07XC and an April 2029 best before date.
Shoppers who bought the soup in England, Wales and Scotland have been told not to eat it, and to instead dispose of it without opening it.
"Carefully place the full can in a bag and dispose of it in an external bin," the FSA told customers.
People seeking a replacement are told to contact Baxters customer care team at ccuk@baxters.com.
Founded in Fochabers in Moray in 1868, Baxters remains one of Scotland's best-known food manufacturers.
It remains a privately-owned family business and is now run by fourth-generation family member Audrey Baxter.
