'Avoid argument with wife': Greater Noida man tries to climb down from 21st floor, falls to death

NOIDA: A 31-year-old man died after falling from the 21st floor of a residential tower in Centurion Park Tropical Garden Society in Greater Noida West on Monday evening.Police suspect Harshit Lavania may have slipped while attempting to move from his balcony to the floor below after his estranged wife arrived at his rented flat.According to police, Harshit lived alone in the society under Bisrakh police station limits and worked at a private company.He got married in 2024, but differences reportedly developed between the couple soon after the wedding. His wife had been living separately for around six months.Police said Harshit's wife arrived at his flat on Monday evening and knocked on the door, but he did not open it. She reportedly called out to him and tried to speak to him, but he refused to engage, allegedly fearing another argument.She subsequently brought security personnel to the flat and attempted to get the door opened.During this time, Harshit reportedly came out through the balcony and tried to reach the floor below, apparently to leave without opening the main door. He allegedly lost his footing and fell from the 21st floor.Residents rushed him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His father, Amitabh Lavania, and other family members reached the spot after being informed about the incident.Family members told police that Harshit had been under considerable mental stress for some time because of the ongoing dispute with his wife.However, police have not established the circumstances leading to the fall, and the sequence of events is being investigated.Bisrakh police have begun examining CCTV footage from the society to establish what happened before the incident.Investigators are also questioning Harshit's wife and other people who may have information about the circumstances surrounding his death.A police officer said no complaint had been received in the case so far.
