NYPD officers reportedly shoot a knife-wielding woman who is accused of stabbing two people in Times Square near the area of West 42nd Street and 7th Avenue in Times Square, Manhattan, New York, United States on Monday, August 31, 2026.

A woman who allegedly stabbed two people near New York City’s Times Square on Monday has died after police shot her, four officials briefed on the matter told NBC News. One of the people she is accused of stabbing has also died, the officials said, describing the victim only as a female. Officials said earlier that the attacker was armed with at least one knife. The condition of the other victim was not immediately known. Disturbing video of the incident shared on social media shows a woman surrounded by officers. A series of gunshots and the sound of a stun gun can be heard as the woman moves toward the officers while waving something. The video shows the woman falling to the ground. Authorities are investigating the woman’s mental health history, the officials said. They said the stabbings, which happened near the tourist-heavy attraction at West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue, do not appear to be a terrorist act. Police told people to avoid the area because of a police investigation.
