President Donald Trump on Sunday announced the formation of a new “Super Intelligence Force” (SIF) to coordinate the federal government’s efforts to ensure that the United States remains a global leader in advanced artificial intelligence. The task force will coordinate the government’s engagement with AI companies, consumers, public interest groups, religious organisations and critical infrastructure providers. It will be led by a four-member leadership team drawn from national intelligence, defence, regulatory and federal personnel agencies.Trump announced the force in a post on Truth Social, saying it would help strengthen US leadership in “Super Intelligence” while protecting American interests.“Following the Historic White House Accord on Super Intelligence, where the World's most important Technology Companies came together, and confirmed their responsibilities to the American People, I am announcing the formation of the Super Intelligence Force (SIF),” Trump wrote.“The Super Intelligence Force is tasked with coordinating the effort of the Federal Government to ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence, which many say is bigger than the Industrial Revolution, and the Internet, and will protect the interests, and improve the lives, of all Americans,” he said.Trump said the force would be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering and Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor.“The Super Intelligence Force will coordinate the Federal Government's engagement with Consumers, Public Interest Groups, Religious Organizations, Critical Infrastructure Providers, and Super Intelligence Companies, and will be led by Director of National Intelligence, Jay Clayton, Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering, and Chief Technology Officer, Emil Michael, and Director of the Office of Personnel Management, Scott Kupor, and will report to the President of the United States (ME!), and the Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added. The announcement follows an executive order by the Trump administration that replaced the terms “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” with “Super Intelligence” and “SI” across executive branch operations.Under the order, the administration has temporarily applied the existing statutory definition of artificial intelligence under Title 15 of the US Code to “Super Intelligence”.The directive also gives the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology 60 days to submit proposed legislation to Congress for an updated federal definition of “Super Intelligence”, along with recommendations for changes to existing laws.Trump, tech leaders discuss AI ambitionsThe announcement comes after Trump hosted a high-level luncheon at the White House with leading technology executives, including SpaceX and Tesla chief Elon Musk, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.Trump described the technological shift as unprecedented and said the sector could have a greater impact than the internet.“It is the biggest thing there is maybe the biggest thing there's ever been. It's much bigger than the Internet. This is unbelievable growth for our country and we have all of them,” Trump said.Following the meeting, technology executives and administration officials briefed reporters on a White House Accord focused on developing Super Intelligence safely. Zuckerberg said the initiative was aimed at building public confidence in the technology.“We want to give the American people and our customers confidence that the technology works in the way we intended,” he added. You use AI every day.
