AP physiotherapists make mark at global AWP conference

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh’s physiotherapy community made a strong mark at the world physiotherapy Asia Western Pacific (AWP) regional conference 2026 in New Delhi, with around 60-70 physiotherapists, students, clinicians and academicians from the state actively participating in the international event.The prestigious event was recently held at Yashobhoomi (IICC); the conference brought together more than 10,000 experts from India and abroad. Themed “Fitness for All: Empowering Communities, Building Inclusive Health!”, the conference focused on the evolving role of physiotherapy in clinical practice, education and public health.The conference was inaugurated by Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta and NCAHP chairperson Yagna Shukla. Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a virtual message congratulating physiotherapists. Delhi CM Gupta described physiotherapists as the “healing hands” of the healthcare system.The Andhra Pradesh contingent participated in academic, cultural and sporting events, including the Global Parade and Physio baton. AP State executive committee member Sree Rajya Lakshmi Vemula was honoured during the launch of the Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) for Pediatric Conditions for her contribution as an author. “The conference has provided a valuable platform for physiotherapists to exchange knowledge, present research and understand emerging trends in clinical practice. Its focus on fitness for all and inclusive healthcare highlights the need to bridge gaps in access and knowledge and ensure quality physiotherapy services for every section of society,” Vemula said.The guidelines book, to be made available on the IAP website, is expected to serve as a reference for physiotherapy management of paediatric conditions.
