Amazon to hire 160,000 temporary workers this festive season

Ahead of the upcoming festive season, Amazon India has announced that it has created more than 160,000 seasonal work opportunities across its pan India operations network that supports its ecommerce and quick commerce business. These include direct and indirect work opportunities across 400 cities in India, spanning large metros as well as tier 2 and 3 cities like Varanasi, Kochi, Jalandhar, Ghaziabad, Ranchi, Salem, Gorakhpur, and others. Amazon has created opportunities for thousands of women and associates with disabilities in its network. The new associates will join Amazon’s existing pan-India operations network helping pick, pack, ship, and deliver customer orders safely and reliably while supporting the growing demand during the festive period. Amazon has already onboarded the majority of these associates in preparation for the festive season and has begun providing them with the necessary training.As part of Amazon’s commitment to supporting its associates, even the seasonal associates will have access to the range of safety and welfare programs and benefits that other associates have. This includes benefits like a safe, supportive and inclusive workplace, safety, financial and social security. Through its Samridhi program, Amazon will also support associates joining the company’s operations network ahead of the festive season to enroll on the e-shram portal and access other government welfare and social security programs.“We are committed to providing customers across every pin-code in India with fast and reliable deliveries this festive season. To meet the anticipated increase in customer demand, we have created over 1.6 lakh seasonal work opportunities across our operations network. As we focus on building one of India’s largest, safest, fastest and most reliable operations network, we are also committed to building an inclusive workforce, with opportunities for thousands of women associates and persons with disabilities. This expanded workforce will help us strengthen our fulfillment and logistics capabilities and ensure we can handle the festive season seamlessly. Many of these associates continue their journey with Amazon beyond the festive period, while several others return year after year to work with us,” said Abhinav Singh, VP, Operations, Amazon India, APAC, Middle East, Africa and Turkiye.Amazon India claims to have fulfilment centers spread across 15 states, offering over 43 million cubic feet of storage space for seller inventory; sortation centers in 19 states; along with a network of close to 2,000 Amazon-operated and partner delivery stations.
