GUWAHATI: A 25-year-old married woman was allegedly murdered, with her severed head found packed in a polythene bag inside a refrigerator at a flat in Assam’s Basisthapur area in Guwahati, officials said on Monday.The victim has been identified as Riya Talukdar Goswami. Investigators described the killing as extremely brutal, saying the accused allegedly severed her head, placed it inside a polythene bag and stored it in the refrigerator. Her fingers were also allegedly cut off.According to news agency ANI, Anurag Sharma, ADCP (East) of Guwahati Police Commissionerate, confirmed that Riya’s husband, Ramanujan Goswami, is the prime accused in the case. He surrendered before police and confessed to the crime.A senior police official said preliminary investigations suggest that the crime took place around 48 hours before the body was discovered.Riya and Ramanujan had married around six months ago and were residing together in the flat, according to reports.Police recovered the victim’s body on Sunday night after neighbours alerted authorities about a foul smell emanating from the apartment.
