4 CISF personnel killed after colleague opens fire in J&K's Kathua; officer among dead

NEW DELHI: At least four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, including an assistant commandant, were killed in a fratricide incident at a power project in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Tuesday, as news agency PTI reported citing officials.The incident took place around 7.30pm at the Sewa-III hydroelectric power project in Mashka village of Basohli, near the Himachal Pradesh border, officials said.According to preliminary information, Head Constable Abhidesh Kumar allegedly opened fire with his service rifle after an argument with some colleagues.Four CISF personnel suffered critical injuries in the firing and later died at the nearby NHPC hospital, officials said.The deceased were identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh and constables Rafiq Ahmed and Sandeep Kumar.The accused was overpowered by his colleagues after the firing and later arrested. His service weapon was also seized as part of the investigation, officials said.Senior CISF and police officers reached the spot following the incident.Officials said the exact reason behind the argument and the circumstances leading to the firing are being investigated.Get the latest India News and Live updates.
