Susan Sarandon, Hannah Einbinder among celebrities arrested outside UN headquarters

[Nexstar] — Multiple celebrities were detained outside the United Nations headquarters in New York on Thursday.

According to the The Associated Press , around 100 people were arrested near the building ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to the U.N. General Assembly .

Specifically, Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon and “Hacks” star Hannah Einbinder were among the protestors detained, according to the advocacy group Jewish Voice for Peace.

This comes after both actresses had made their thoughts about Palestine and the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza public, Variety reports.

Sarandon appeared at the Venice Film Festival in September and commented on being shut out of Hollywood following her remarks about Palestine. The actress said, “I’ve still had movies taken away recently because there are agencies that are telling people not to hire me still.”

Einbinder also commented on Palestine at an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival.

“There is a greater toll in not speaking, and you just gotta have your priorities straight,” she said at the time. “I am under no impression that my one small career could ever measure up in comparison to even one human life.”

“So, you know, it’s an obligation, and I will always do it,” the actress added.
