Four arrested after police officer injured in Nottingham shooting
The officer was shot in the foot and remains in hospital in a stable condition, police say.
Four people have been arrested - including a woman on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and possessing a firearm - after a police officer was shot in Nottingham city centre.
Nottinghamshire Police said the officer had approached two suspects at a bus stop in Angel Row shortly before 04:50 BST on Sunday.
The male officer remains in hospital and is in a stable condition, the force added.
Two women, 27 and 25, and a 24-year-old man were arrested after police stopped a vehicle in the Radford area of Nottingham on Sunday evening, while a 30-year-old man was arrested in Bedfordshire in the early hours of Monday.
The 27-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
The 24-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Separately, after stopping a vehicle in Bedfordshire, the 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas said: "A team of experienced detectives continues to work tirelessly to establish exactly what happened before, during and after this appalling incident.
"I am pleased that four arrests have now been made and hope this provides some reassurance to the public as those detained are questioned in connection with the discharge of the firearm."
A large police cordon - which was put in place in Angel Row following the shooting - has now been lifted.
ACC Rukas thanked local businesses, residents and members of the public for their patience, support and understanding while the force carried out its investigation.
"The injured officer continues to recover in hospital and is receiving support from colleagues and loved ones," she said.
"We ask that his privacy is respected at this time.
"Our thoughts remain with him, and with his family, friends and colleagues, who have all been affected by this deeply shocking incident."
On Monday, Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden said the officer's injuries were "not life-threatening - it's most likely to be life-altering" .
The PCC added the incident highlighted the dangers of being a police officer.
"This officer was going to speak to two individuals who were acting suspiciously, and this happened," he said.
Labour MP for Nottingham East Nadia Whittome has told the BBC she understood the officer was "now out of surgery".
She added: "This incident will no doubt will be damaging to the reputation of the city, especially because of our past, but I think that we also saw was an extremely rare incident that was the worst of our city.
"But we also saw the best of our city. At quarter to five on Sunday morning, people coming together doing everything that they could to assist and I think that we have to take comfort in that as well."
