All flights in Guernsey cancelled due to 'persistent fog'

All flights on Thursday evening have been cancelled due to persistent fog.

Guernsey Airport said it was working with the States of Guernsey, Guernsey Ports, Visit Guernsey and airlines to support passengers, secure overnight accommodation for them and reschedule flights.

The flight cancellations had coincided with high numbers of visiting travellers, which had placed significant pressure on available accommodation capacity, the team added.

The airport team said the disruption was expected to continue on Friday and travellers were advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

Inbound flights were diverted to UK airports on Thursday afternoon due to the fog.

Guernsey Airport director Richard Thomasson, said: "We recognise that today's fog disruption will be frustrating for passengers and we would like to thank them for their patience and understanding.

"Our priority is ensuring passengers receive the support they need while we continue to manage the impact of these weather conditions."

Emergency contingency procedures had been put in place to ensure support was available for passengers unable to secure accommodation, the airport team added.
