JDA to crack down on illegal PG facilities along Gopalpura Bypass Road

Jaipur: Following Supreme Court directions, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) will begin action next week against illegal paying guest accommodations operating in residential colonies along both sides of Gopalpura Bypass Road.The enforcement wing will issue notices to operators, asking them to shut down the accommodations. Facilities that continue to function even after the notice period will be sealed. “These units had violated authority bylaws and were functioning as hostels while describing themselves as paying guest facilities to avoid stricter approval requirements,” said JDA enforcement DIG Anand Sharma.Officials said JDA norms allow paying guest accommodation only under specific conditions. The owner and guests must use a single kitchen, and the number of boarders is capped according to the rooms available. The facilities under scrutiny allegedly breach these rules by housing a large number of students and working professionals, adding unauthorised rooms and operating in a commercial manner without permission.According to enforcement officials, several buildings in the area have been modified illegally to create extra accommodation. “Many such properties function more like hostels or budget hotels than residential paying guest premises. The department claims the operators have ignored both land-use norms and building bylaws,” an enforcement official added.The proposed action is expected to affect a large number of students and employees who depend on these accommodations because of their proximity to coaching centres, offices and transport routes. JDA officials acknowledged the possibility of disruption but said the facilities had been running illegally and could not continue merely because they serve a demand.“Operators would find it difficult to secure court protection as the violations were clear and documented. Once notices are served, the management will be given a deadline to stop operations.
