German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul is travelling to northern Africa on Monday, with stops planned in Tunisia and Algeria.

A ministry spokesman said on Sunday that the two countries are important partners for Germany and Europe, acting as a bridge between the European and African continents.

In Tunis, Wadephul plans to meet his counterpart Mohamed Nafti before talks with business representatives and a visit to a start-up. He is to be accompanied by a business delegation.

Later in the afternoon, Wadephul intends to travel on to Algiers, where meetings are planned with Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and business representatives. He is also due to be received by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The ministry spokesman said there is great potential to strengthen cooperation between the two countries and Europe, particularly in the field of renewable energy.

Regional issues such as the situation in the Middle East and the Sahel region are also set to be discussed.
