Parliaments can serve as bridges to ease global tensions, says Birla

NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said on Monday that parliaments as expressions of the people’s will could serve as bridges to ease international tensions at a time of global uncertainty, heightened by regional conflicts, wars, terrorism and trade disruptions, and called on Brics legislatures to foster collective action.Inaugurating the 12th Brics Parliamentary Forum, he said the consequences of geopolitical and economic headwinds transcended national boundaries and must be met with a spirit of collective responsibility. “These shared aspirations provided a strong foundation for deeper engagement and purposeful cooperation. The Brics Parliamentary Forum must therefore emerge as a dynamic platform for building confidence, fostering understanding and advancing collective action in pursuit of these common goals,” the LS Speaker added.Get the latest India News and Live updates.
