Inquest opens into 'Putney Pusher' suspect's death
Nicholas Brandram, who was suspected of pushing a woman into the path of a bus, was found dead last week.
A man suspected of knocking a woman into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge was found dead by his brother-in-law after missing a family meal, his inquest has heard.
Nicholas Brandram, 44, was discovered at his home in Chiswick on 15 September, West London Coroner's Court was told.
He had been arrested in June on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm in relation to the incident of May 2017, when a woman was shoved into the road by a jogger. His family say he was not involved.
Opening and adjourning the inquest, West London coroner Melanie Lee said she had been told of a referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct and was suspending the hearing pending the outcome of its inquiry.
The coroner offered her "sincere condolences" to Brandram's family, in particular his sisters Sophie Voelcker and Alexia Hicks who were at the hearing in Fulham.
The court heard that Brandram's brother-in-law used a spare key provided by a neighbour and found the married banker in an upstairs room.
Paramedics attended but despite their resuscitation efforts he was pronounced dead just before 21:00 BST. Police did not regard the death as suspicious or believe there had been any third-party involvement, the inquest heard.
Brandram's family have insisted he was not the jogger, referred to as the Putney Pusher in media coverage at the time, and blame the Met Police's handling of the case for his death.
They said last week that he "took his own life after months of immense pressure caused by a Metropolitan Police investigation", and there was no forensic evidence linking the banker to the incident.
The force said it recognised the "strain that being subject to a police investigation" could cause.
