DEHRADUN: Ramsharan Nautiyal, father of Bollywood singer Jubin Nautiyal, joined the Congress on Monday, days after resigning from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking his return to the party he had left in 2014.Nautiyal’s move comes months ahead of the 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly elections and after he indicated that a lack of respect was behind his decision to leave the BJP.“I have resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party. If the BJP president has said that the resignation has not been received, that is possible because I did not go personally to submit it. I sent my stenographer to the office,” Nautiyal had said after the resignation row emerged. He later said he had emailed his resignation to the BJP state president, Mahendra Bhatt, after reading reports that the party had not received it.Explaining his decision to quit the BJP, Nautiyal had said that someone who had been associated with an organisation for 10-12 years would not leave without a reason.“But when a person leaves their place, the main reason should be respected. And if respect is not given, then one will distance oneself. That is what I say,” he had said, adding that Bhatt could explain the reasons for his departure. The BJP had earlier said it had not received his resignation, triggering a brief dispute over whether the letter had been formally submitted.(With agency inputs)Stay updated with the latest Dehradun news.
