Zelensky says Ukraine has struck new targets in Russia

Ukrainian President Zelensky announced that Ukraine has targeted eight infrastructure objects in Russia, including an oil refinery and a commercial port, in response to the ongoing conflict between the two countries.

A woman was killed in a Ukrainian drone strike in the Voronezh region, with two others injured, while falling drone debris from attacks in Dagestan and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District caused fires at port infrastructure and a theatre.

Ukraine has been using drones to counterattack against Russia, which has been engaged in a war with Ukraine for over four and a half years, with recent strikes targeting various regions in Russia.

Ukraine has once again attacked several infrastructure targets in Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday.

Eight infrastructure objects serving the Russian war effort were targeted, Zelensky wrote on social media.

He said an oil refinery in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District and a commercial port in the Russian Republic of Dagestan were hit. Facilities in the Moscow, Voronezh, Astrakhan and Bryansk regions were also targeted, Zelensky wrote, without providing details.

In the Voronezh region, a woman was killed in a Ukrainian drone strike in the city of Borisoglebsk, according to Governor Alexsandr Gusev. Two further people were injured, he said, adding that 19 Ukrainian drones had been intercepted over the region.

Dagestan's acting head of republic, Fyodor Shchukin, said that falling drone debris had started fires at port infrastructure and at a theatre in Makhachkala. There were no casualties, he said.

There were reports the previous day of a drone strike in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District in western Siberia, far from Ukraine. District Governor Dmitry Artyukhov said that falling drone debris had caused a fire at an unspecified industrial facility.

Russia has been waging a devastating war against Ukraine for more than four and a half years. As part of its defence effort, Ukraine has stepped up its counterattacks in recent months, primarily using drones.
