'Even Donald Trump is copying us': DK Shivakumar says US $5,000 promise 'inspired' by Congress guarantees

BENGALURU: Karnataka chief minister DK Shivakumar on Monday said even US President Donald Trump was “copying” the Congress government’s guarantee schemes, while highlighting what he described as their popularity among people.Speaking in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said the Congress government’s welfare guarantees had become a “blockbuster” and drew a comparison with Trump’s recent promise to give every adult American $5,000 if Republicans retain control of the House and Senate in the November midterm elections.Trump has renewed his proposal for a $5,000 “dividend” for every adult American, saying the US government could afford the payments because it was collecting large amounts of revenue.“I don't know but it's easy if the Republicans win. $5,000 to all adults in the country and we can easily handle that because we're taking in so much money,” Trump told reporters in Ireland on Sunday, according to reports.Trump had first unveiled the proposal at a Republican Party convention in Dallas.
