School games competition starts in Buxar

Buxar: The three-day district-level school games competition for 2026-27 began in Buxar on Tuesday, with students from different schools competing in badminton and athletics.Organised under the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), the competition will continue till Oct 1. District magistrate Sahila inaugurated the event and encouraged students to compete with discipline, dedication and sportsmanship.Addressing the participants, Sahila urged them to practise regularly and take an active part in sports to hone their skills and pursue opportunities at higher levels. She said sports helped build discipline, teamwork, self-confidence and overall personality.She also appealed to students to spend at least an hour every day playing sports or engaging in physical activities for better physical and mental health.The opening day saw enthusiastic participation in badminton and athletics events, including the 100-metre race. Students competed to showcase their skills and secure places in district-level contests.The district administration said the competition aimed to strengthen the sporting culture in schools and provide talented students a platform to demonstrate their abilities. It would also help identify promising athletes for higher-level competitions.Senior district and education department officials, physical education personnel, school authorities and other staff attended the inaugural programme.
