2 women killed, several injured as speeding bus runs amok in Bhubaneswar

BHUBANESWAR: In a horrific series of road accidents, two women were killed and several others injured after a speeding passenger bus went on a rampage in the Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar early Sunday morning.The incident occurred near CRP Square when a night coach bus allegedly lost control and ploughed into morning walkers before crashing into vehicles parked along the roadside. The bus first hit pedestrians and then rammed into a parked car and a goods-carrying auto-rickshaw, dragging the vehicles nearly 100 metres. It also crashed into a roadside tea stall and damaged an underground drinking water chamber.The impact was so severe that the rear portion of the car was completely mangled. Two women reportedly died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to Capital Hospital for treatment.The deceased have been identified as Geetanjali Rana (24), a resident of Bargarh district, and Juna Mandal (41), a resident of Nayagarh. The injured include Pradeep Jena (45) and Sunita Meher (26).The bus driver allegedly fled the scene immediately after the accident, triggering a search for the vehicle and its driver.Nayapalli police rushed to the spot, dispersed the crowd and initiated an investigation.
