Hyderabad hit-and-run: SI dies after being struck by biker during Ganesh immersion duty

HYDERABAD: A 55-year-old SI of Bhadradri Kothagudem district who was on Ganesh idol immersion bandobust duties in Hyderabad died after he was hit by a two-wheeler on Tank Bund. Police teams are verifying the CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the accused.The victim, K Venkanna, was an SI of Kothagudem II Town PS. He was among the 10 cops of Kothagudem II Town PS deployed in Hyderabad for Ganesh idol immersion security duties. At around 1.50 am on Wednesday, when Venkanna, along with another cop, was crossing Tank Bund road, a two-wheeler hit him.Venkanna, who sustained injuries to his right hand and leg, was shifted from the spot in a police vehicle to a private hospital in Lakdikapul. According to Saifabad police, doctors who examined him thought he had only sustained injuries to his hand and leg and gave first aid.According to Kothagudem police, Venkanna was a native of Kistapuram village in Thorrur mandal of Mahabubabad. “His family and friends did not think it was a head injury. They shifted him to a private hospital in Hanamkonda, closer to his native place in the afternoon. While undergoing treatment, his condition suddenly became critical due to internal head injury and he succumbed on Wednesday night,” Kothagudem II Town SI K Raja Sekhar said.Meanwhile, Saifabad police said that they are trying to identify and arrest the accused. “We have registered a case on Wednesday morning and after the death, the section has been altered to fatal road accident.
