Puja Khedkar’s parents booked for disproportionate assets

NASHIK: Anti-Corruption Bureau, Nashik Range, has booked retired Maharashtra Pollution Control Board regional officer Dilip Kondiba Khedkar and his wife Manorama after an inquiry allegedly found that he had accumulated assets 102% beyond his known sources of income during his service.A case has been registered against the couple at the Pathardi police station under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Indian Penal Code.“An open inquiry by the ACB revealed that during his service tenure, Dilip Khedkar acquired disproportionate assets amounting to 102% beyond his known sources of income,” investigating officer and ACB deputy SP Ajit Tripute said.ACB has named Manorama as a co-accused, alleging that she helped her husband accumulate the disproportionate assets. “There is no immediate need to arrest the couple. They will be called for inquiry from time to time,” Tripute said.Explaining the investigation, Tripute said the ACB first undertakes a discreet inquiry after receiving a complaint seeking a probe into a public servant’s wealth. “If officials find grounds for further investigation, permission is obtained from govt to conduct an open inquiry,” he said. The alleged disproportionate assets were detected during this open inquiry.TOI repeatedly tried to contact Khedkar on Tuesday for his response. His phone was switched off.
