Bhilai Municipal Corporation to map drainage network with GIS, drone surveys

Raipur: Bhilai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has initiated an integrated urban water management plan to tackle waterlogging, streamline drainage and boost groundwater recharge using geographic information system (GIS) mapping and drone surveys. The initiative aims to build a digital database across an estimated 75 to 80 sq km area, covering nearly 350 km of road and drainage corridors. The project will evaluate drinking water quality, identify sewage cross-contamination risks and design scientific rainwater harvesting systems across the industrial city. The municipal commissioner said strengthening Bhilai’s water management for future demands requires a unified approach towards water supply, drainage, stormwater, groundwater, sewage and water quality. The corporation will build a comprehensive spatial data foundation through modern GIS, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) mapping and field inspections to pinpoint critical points and execute priority-based engineering solutions.Under the action plan, the civic body will geo-tag chronic waterlogging spots to determine drainage bottlenecks, capacity limits and encroachments. Rainwater harvesting structures, recharge wells and pits will be mapped and planned at suitable hydro-geological locations to raise the groundwater table. To prevent contamination of drinking water networks, the corporation will use GIS layers to trace potential leakages and improper sewage connections. The civic administration has also selected key sites, including 24 municipal borewells, for physical water quality testing and risk assessment. The collected spatial and field datasets will feed into the ‘JAL-RAKSHA Digital Twin’, a 3D digital model of the city’s water infrastructure, enabling real-time monitoring and predictive urban planning. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Raipur | Silver Rate in Raipur | Bank Holidays in Raipur | Public Holidays in Raipur | Raipur AQI | Weather in Raipur | Petrol Price in Raipur | Diesel Price in Raipur | CNG Price in Raipur | LPG Price in RaipurStay updated with the latest Raipur news.
