French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu says he has asked regional authorities to impose “partial” and “localised” curfews in some cities to protect businesses after weekend demonstrations spilled over into some of the worst street violence in recent years.
President Emmanuel Macron acknowledges “failures in anticipation and intelligence” but rules out the resignation of Interior Minister Laurent Nunez who admitted police “lost control” during days of violent protests mainly over the cost-of-living crisis.
