Fifty brides celebrate 50 years of bridal fashion in Southampton

Wedding outfits from the last five decades have been shown off on a red carpet in Southampton.

Fifty people, ranging from 26 to 76 years old, took to the catwalk modelling outfits from the 70s through to a future bride of 2027.

The event was to mark 50 years of the family-owned Brides of Southampton.

"It's wild," director Shelley Jory-Leigh said, adding that her mother had stopped traffic with a horse drawn carriage and models when she opened the bridal shop in Portswood Road 1976.

"So I knew we had to do something big to celebrate 50 years," she said.

Shelley has worked at the store since she was 10 years old as a runner, and eventually took over from her parents.

The family's shop, now in Carlton Crescent, has served more than 35,000 brides from three generations.
