Pune: Daund MLA Rahul Kul has written a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on the release of water from Mulshi dam into Mula-Mutha river and Bhima river to benefit drought-hit areas of Pune and Solapur districts. The MLA has urged the CM to hold a meeting on priority to discuss the proposal, which can extend some respite to the areas that have recorded scanty rain during monsoon.Kul represents the Daund area, where deficient monsoon was recorded this year. He told TOI, “Our area primarily gets water from dams in Khadakwasla circle. However, the water levels in four dams in the circle are significantly down as compared to last year’s storages. To overcome possible water scarcity areas around Daund and Indapur will face during summer days, a proposal has been tabled to draw water from Mulshi dam. We have approached the CM on the proposal to discuss how much water can be released.”Water released from Mulshi dam will flow into Mula river, then Mula-Mutha and then Bhima rivers. Kul said that water released in these rivers will get collected in Ujani dam, located on the boundary of Pune and Solapur districts. The release will not only push up water levels in Ujani, but will also benefit villages located along these rivers by recharging groundwater level and wells. The proposal to draw water from Mulshi for drinking purposes has been under discussion at state govt level since the last few years. Kul said that the proposal has moved ahead on technical parameters. If worked out well, it will provide huge relief to urban and rural pockets in the district.Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has already mooted before state govt to provide water from Mulshi to the city to meet increasing water demand.Sources from rural areas said that water release from Khadakwasla into the irrigation canal is likely to dip in the coming winter and summer seasons due to less stock. Farmers also want the administration to keep aside adequate stock of water for rural areas. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Pune | Silver Rate in Pune | Bank Holidays in Pune | Public Holidays in Pune | Petrol Price in Pune | Diesel Price in Pune | CNG Price in Pune | LPG Price in PuneStay updated with the latest Pune news.
