Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) is seen during a House Select Subcommittee on Jan. 6 to discuss the investigation into the DNC and RNC pipe bombs on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) said Thursday afternoon a man in Florida’s 23rd District , which Moskowitz represents, was arrested after making death threats against the lawmaker.

“A constituent of mine has just been arrested in Boca, just a few miles from my house, for threatening my life,” Moskowitz wrote on the social platform X .

The Democratic House member said the man had been detained in Palm Beach County Jail, and he thanked the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) for its response to the situation.

The Hill has reached out to the FDLE for comment.

Moskowitz told the Miami Herald the man left a voicemail at his office, in which he threatened the lawmaker’s life.

The Florida Democrat previously faced a death threat ahead of the 2024 election. Police arrested 42-year-old John Lapinski at the time after a shooting in which no one was injured. Authorities later discovered Lapinski’s manifesto, which included a “target list” of “groups to attack” based on race or religion and named Moskowitz, who is Jewish.

The news comes a day after Rep. Keith Self (R-Texas) said he and his family received an assassination threat from a person in his district.

North Texas outlet WFAA reported on Wednesday that a 17-year-old from McKinney, Texas, who had been detained earlier this month planned to assassinate Self at an Oct. 17 event.

The Texas Republican thanked the FBI and law enforcement partners for preventing the planned attack and said he and his family were “safe” in a social media post .

Self tied the threat to his recent legislative efforts against Islamic extremism and Sharia law.

“Preserving our constitutional republic from radical Islam means accepting the costs that come with it—name-calling, threats, and worse,” he wrote in his post.

“Our Founders believed this country was worth the sacrifice,” Self continued. “I served 25 years in the military because defending freedom was worth the sacrifice. This only strengthens my resolve. I will not back down.”

In the lead-up to the November midterm elections, dozens of lawmakers from both parties have also reported receiving suspicious packages at their district offices containing unidentified white powder.

Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) called the trend “deeply concerning” in a social media post .

“This has no place in our nation,” he wrote. “America is better than this.”
