President Trump wouldn’t say Thursday whether he was the one who called SpaceX founder Elon Musk to restore Starlink for Ukraine.

“Well, I don’t want to say but I know it was a very interesting situation,” he told reporters before departing the White House. “I don’t want to comment one way or the other.”

“Whether I called or whether somebody else called, doesn’t make any difference,” he said. “I guess the bottom line — he put it back.”

He said his relationship with Musk remains to be “a very good one.”

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that Trump called Musk on Wednesday and asked him to lift the slowdown of his company’s Starlink satellite internet services and its military counterpart Starshield for Ukraine.

Officials told the outlet that Trump told Musk he was frustrated that the system’s speeds remained capped at roughly 100 miles an hour.

The report came after The Journal reported Tuesday that Musk was the one who ordered the slowdown.

The satellite services have been a vital tool for Ukraine to defend itself from Russian missile and drone attacks.

There has been uncertainty over who exactly was involved with the slowing of the service that Ukraine started to be affected by last week. Trump has previously denied that he or Musk had any involvement with the slowdown.

“I didn’t do that. No, we didn’t do that at all,” Trump told reporters Friday while on his way to a campaign rally in Georgia.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters Wednesday that Ukraine’s access to Starlink was not up the White House, but to Musk.

“The bottom line is that that is governed by a private commercial contract as to how their stuff can be used and what speeds they’ll allow it to be used at,” Rubio told reporters while traveling to India.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the slowdown was a commercial matter.

“There are terms of service that ultimately need to be complied to, and that’s where Starlink has the option to make those decisions,” Hegseth said.
