Trump ‘confident’ Republicans will pass next farm bill vote

President Trump on Thursday expressed optimism that this year’s farm bill will be approved by the Senate after it narrowly cleared a key hurdle the day before.

On Wednesday, the Senate Agriculture Committee advanced the “Farm Bill 2.0” with a 12-11 vote along party lines.

“The Phase Two Vote will be taken soon, and I feel confident that the Republicans will again come through for our wonderful Farmers and Ranchers,” Trump wrote on Truth Social .

“It will be passed!” the president added.

The legislation will require some Democratic support to reach the required 60-vote threshold to pass in the upper chamber of Congress.

Democrats on the Senate Agriculture Committee blocked the legislation from advancing to a floor vote last month, citing concerns that it does not adequately deal with changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) returned to the committee on Wednesday to cast the deciding vote on this measure after his long absence from Congress following his hospitalization in June.

The farm bill sets national policy for agriculture and nutrition and is scheduled to be passed every five years. Congress has not successfully advanced a farm bill since under the first Trump administration in 2018.

Trump reflected on this past legislation in his Thursday Truth Social post, saying he was “proud” of this accomplishment.

“Now I look forward to being the President who again, along with our Great Republican Senators and Congressmen/women will get it done, for a second time but, even more conclusively, and an even better Bill,” he wrote.

The president recently faced blowback from ranchers and farmers to his administration’s decision to temporarily pause high tariffs on imported ground beef.

Trump announced several new policies in the wake of this criticism catered toward this population, including making it easier for farmers and ranchers to process their own meat .

On Thursday, the president said he wanted to “totally ensure” the farming and ranching communities “that they will be extremely happy with the end result” in this farm bill fight.

“In addition to everything else, some much needed Dollar Assistance will be provided — and well deserved — considering all these incredible people have had to endure due to four years of Sleepy Joe Biden, and the very Anti-Farm Biden Administration,” he continued.
